Qurbani simply means sacrifice and it refers to the sacrifice of an animal to honour Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his precious son Ismail in his devotion and dedication to Allah SWT. The meat from your Qurbani can be split 3 ways. One third for yourself, a third for your neighbour and a third for the poor and vulnerable. The Prophet said “A person is not a believer who fill his stomach while his neighbour goes hungry.” (Bukhari)

Qurbani is compulsory (Wajib) for every sane Muslim who has reached the age of puberty and has the financial means (Nisaab) of 52.5 toles of silver,(612.36 grams) or the equivalent value in gold (87.48 grams).
